Treasury Bill is a government debt security with a maturity less than 1 year and Government Bond is a government debt security with a maturity of 1 year or more. They are issued within the domestic market by the Undersecretariat of Treasury.

They are issued by the Treasury of the Republic of Turkey via Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey via tender or public offering to serve public borrowing needs. They are generally issued in Turkish Lira but they might be issued in foreign currency as well. The repayment of the principal and interest in Treasury Bill and Government Bond is completely realized by the government.

In Treasury Bills and Government Bonds, the investor knows the amount of the interest return that will get at the end of the maturity and this return is guaranteed on the condition that Treasury Bills and Government Bonds are kept in reserve until the end of maturity. During the maturity period, they can be bought and sold in secondary markets by persons and institutions. When they are liquidated before the end of the maturity, the returns might change according to the market conditions at that date. The investor might have a smaller amount than the initially invested amount.
